Do you remember the turtle candies made with nuts, caramel, and chocolate? If you like those, you will LOVE this turtle cake recipe!

ingredients

  • 1 chocolate cake mix of any brand can also use German Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 12 oz package of Vanilla Caramel Creams®, unwrapped
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped dry roasted peanuts, divided into two 1/2 cup measures
  • 1 tub chocolate frosting

instructions

  • Make the cake as it is directed on the package. Pour 1/2 of cake mixture into a greased and floured 13 x 9 cake pan. You can also use parchment paper here instead of the grease and flour and just use some pam over the top of parchment paper that is on the bottom of the 13 x 9 pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
  • Melt Goetze's Caramel Creams, butter and the milk over low heat. Pour the melted caramel cream mixture over the partially baked cake. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped peanuts. Pour the remaining 1/2 cake batter mixture over the caramel cream layer.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes more.
  • Cool and then frost the cooled cake with chocolate frosting and sprinkle with additional chopped peanuts.
