Pucker up for this sweet and sour caramel apple snack made with Caramel Apple Cow Tales® and freshly popped popcorn.
ingredients
- 12 Caramel Apple Cow Tales®
- 1/2 cup corn kernels
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup light corn syrup
- 3 oz (1 box) of apple-flavored gelatin
instructions
How to Make Stovetop Popcorn
- Coat the bottom of a large saucepan with vegetable oil and add corn kernels. Shake the pot so the kernels lay flat on the bottom of the pan in the oil. Place the pot over a medium-high heat. When the oil starts to crackle, gently shake the pot to rotate the kernels. Do this every 30 seconds until the corn begins to pop. When the popping stops, immediately pour the popcorn into a large bowl and salt to taste. Remove any un-popped kernels and set the bowl aside.
Instructions
- Unwrap and chop the Apple Cow Tales® in to peanut-sized bits and set aside. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper and set aside.
- Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan. Stir in the sugar until it melts. Stir in the corn syrup, followed by the apple gelatin mix. Bring the mixture to a boil over the lowest possible heat setting. Stirring frequently, allow the mixture to boil for 5 minutes.
- Remove the sauce from the heat and pour half over the popcorn. Toss the popcorn, then add the remainder of the mixture, and toss the popcorn again.
- Spread the popcorn on cookie sheet, sprinkle the Apple Cow Tales® bits on top and bake for 15 minutes.
- Remove and toss the popcorn. Bake for another 15 minutes.
- Let the popcorn cool for 10 minutes and toss again. The popcorn will stick together as it cools. Break apart any clumps and continue to toss, as needed, to prevent the candy coating from settling to the bottom of the pan. Serve when completely cool.
