Randle Melvin Goetze, SR. 2nd Generation President. 1909 - 1972 — 63 Years

Welcome to Goetze to Know the Generations: 130th Anniversary Edition, where we celebrate 130 years of history by introducing the remarkable people who have shaped Goetze’s Candy Company over the decades! This month we are highlighting August Goetze.

Goetze to Know The Generations Randle Melvin Goetze, Sr. became the second generation to join the family business in 1909, working alongside his father and grandfather. Amid two world wars, a major production move, and ingredient shortages, he helped shape Goetze’s future. In 1917, during WWI, he began making “chuees” (Caramel Creams® without the center) in the family kitchen. By 1918, Caramel Creams® as we know them were born—over 100 years ago.

About Goetze’s Candy Co., Inc.

Goetze’s Candy is a fifth generation, family-owned company located in downtown Baltimore, MD. Founded in 1895, we are celebrating 130 years of making sweet treats in the USA. Since the 1940’s, our staple product has been Caramel Creams®—a soft, chewy caramel wrapped around a decadent cream center—a tasty, iconic American treat. In 1984, Goetze’s Candy introduced Cow Tales®, an elongated version of the classic Caramel Creams.
